Family

While it is true that the family has come under increasing attack in the last two hundred years, we do not believe that our posture should be purely defensive. Certainly Christians should do everything in their power to defend the integrity of the family against moral, economic, and jurisdictional attacks. Biblical Blueprints has been engaged in this critical work. But too many Christians forget that a godly family can be a formidable tool of influence in its own right if it will implement biblical thinking. Whether humanists like it or not, Biblical families that believe in covenant succession are families of influence.

The influence may be more subtle, including the influence of hospitality on a church or a community. It may be more obvious, through philanthropy, creating businesses, mentoring leaders, or involvement in politics. But the power of a warm family to shape the way others think should not be underrated.

And over time, extended families can pass on a vision that profoundly shapes an entire nation. Think of the powerful influence (whether for good or for bad) that the top American dynasties of our own day have exerted. Time Magazine listed the Rockefellers, Astors, Kennedys, Sulzbergers, Daleys of Chicago fame, the Coppolas of American film, the Bushes, the Mannings of football fame, the Barrymores, and the Williamses as all being families with enormous influence.

But whether your family will ever be a dynasty or not, God intended for your family to represent His interests, advance his cause, and be a family of influence. Any family that is willing to follow God’s blueprints has the potential of seeing God’s blessings extended with compounded growth over many generations. Eventually God promises that in Christ, “all the families of the earth will be blessed” (Acts 3:25).
